Director General’s Welcome Statement First, I would like to thank and welcome you to the website of Gambia Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA). This website offers you an opportunity to know more about GCAA. You will come across facts, figures and details of the role of the Authority in fulfilling its tripartite mandate of: 1. overseeing the safety and security of civil aviation in The Gambia; 2. the provision of air navigation services; and, 3. for the time being, the operation of Banjul International Airport (BIA). You will also find detailed information on the foregoing in the GCAA Act 2018. In order to meet its objectives, eight departments have been set up in the Authority to fulfil its mandates. Details of the respective departments will be found in the About Us section. Currently, the airport is undertaking a multimillion-dollar development works. The works started in May 2018 and will be completed by July 2020. The following will be undertaken: a. remodelling of the New Passenger Terminal Building (NPTB), (built in 1997) to make it fit for purpose. The works will include new tiles, ceiling, repair of check-in counters, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning and cladding of the façade; b. rehabilitation of the Control Tower including replacing all the communication equipment; c. upgrading of the generator room and procurement of two new generator sets including control panels; and, d. hot mix overlay of service roads in front of the terminal building. Once completed, the airport will become more convenient and comfortable users. Security, immigration and check-in formalities will become faster as there will be more check-in desks, security lanes and immigration kiosks. Access roads around the airport will equally be upgraded to add to the aesthetics of the airport infrastructure. More services will become available to passengers and their friends and families. Commercially and very important passengers (CIP/VIP) will also enjoy new swanking lounges to spend their time during their travels.
